History of Netball –
In 2004, Mrs. Mabel Roca was fulfilling the functions of Cestoball Coordinator in the Argentine Hebraic Society, and had been appointed Technical Director by FACCMA of the National Team of the Junior category to attend the World Macabead in Israel to be held the following year, but not with his sport but with a Netball team. This involved preparing the athletes in a new discipline given the absence of the practice of Cestoball in other countries. With which immediately began to add information to optimally specify the participation of the team. And although, due to the political conflicts in the Gaza Strip the Argentine delegation was reduced and did not participate with the Netball, the idea of continuing to investigate as a new sport option remained. It was then that he asked the technique of the lower categories, Noelia Peñer, who in addition
to having been an excellent player in 1st. The division also had the domain of computer science, which through the internet gathered as much information as possible about netball in the world. And that’s how contact was made with Ann Steel and Carole Hokrein of the USA via emails on a constant basis, who gave us enough credibility to start with a new “something” with international projection as Netball has.
Adriana Oria, a long-time player and coach in the sport who was working as a Cestoball Coordinator in the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, joined in this concern and, currently, besides being a member of the Board of Directors, is the Director of Development of the federation. . As also Adrián Malnatti and Claudia Lagos, who contributed their experience in volunteer work as parents in the subcommittee of the same club, and continue to do so in the federation to the present as members of the Board of Directors.
It took a while to organize and think together about the new challenge, in all there was a strong conviction of wanting to start a new stage in sports for women in Argentina.
The following year, and with the first draft of the Rules of the Game translated by Graciela Dondi (first regulation in Spanish), Mabel Roca and Adriana Oria were invited by the International to attend the 2005 World Youth Championship in Miami, while Noelia Peñer Grafman was traveling to Israel in the midst of the World Macabeads. Participation in both international events allowed us to SEE the reality of Netball World and its own game, its organization and its people.
All this gave a strong impulse to start the Netball in Argentina and we started working with the few tools we had, but we started. Later we obtained the recognitions of different public estates like the one of the Secretary of Sports of the Nation, of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, of the Argentine Confederation of Sports, and we entered the Argentine Olympic Committee, since it is a sport recognized by the Committee Olympic International.
